I’m a proud American, and I hope there’s many proud Chinese and Russians out there. But we really shouldn’t hate each other. There’s no reason for wives to lose their husbands, children to lose their fathers. War isn’t fair. If we don’t agree with everything, that’s reasonable, we have very different cultures. But I respect all cultures worldwide, and if everyone respected each other’s culture conflicts wouldn’t happen, but it doesn’t work that way, which is way I don’t have my uncle.
WWII was the world war to end all world wars. Given the kind of weapons that are available these days, another world war would probably mean the end of a substantial portion of humanity if not ALL of humanity. Nah, nobody is that stupid, this is not to say it won’t happen, mental illness can trump stupidity if the wrong weapons find themselves in the wrong hands. It’s just not good for business.
Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs Martin Dempsey said Thursday that he did not want to be «complicit» if Israel chose to strike Iran’s nuclear program, positing that a premature attack would dissolve the international pressure on the Islamic Republic. Dempsey’s comments come as the White House said that Iran had a limited window of time to stop its atomic work and diplomatic terms offered by the Western world will not remain open «indefinitely.»
Revolutionary Guards commanders says war would be «historic opportunity» to destroy Israel and «reclaim Palestine.» Tehran will destroy Israel if it launches an attack on Iran either with or without the US. Brig.-Gen. Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’s aerospace division, told state-owned Al-Alam TV that an Israeli strike on Iran could “trigger World War III.” “It is impossible to imagine an independent war between Iran and the US or the Zionist regime [Israel],” he said, adding that other countries in the region would likely side with Iran or Israel in case of war. Iran would target US bases in the region should Israel attack, Hajizadeh added.
Also on Sunday, Deputy Commander of the Revolutionary Guard Brig.-Gen. Hossein Salami said Iran is no longer concerned about threats from Israel. “We have crossed the line of worrying about threats from the Zionist Regime [Israel],” Salami said according to Sepah News, the Revolutionary Guard’s official news site. He added that in its wars over the last decade Israel has encountered harsh retaliation from the Islamic Republic’s “regional branches” and is no longer considered a threat to Iran.
“If the Zionists really do strike Iran, it would provide a historic opportunity for the Islamic Revolution to wipe [Israel] off the face of the earth,” he said adding that Iran would then “reclaim the lands occupied by Israel for the Palestinians.” Salami added that an infantry battalion would be able to “break Israel’s back” within a day. “The Regime [Israel] is only 24 kilometers wide in parts,” he explained.
Salami said that Iran was known as a great power and was capable of fighting on many fronts. “We do not intend to start a war, but if someone starts a war against us, we will respond offensively and strike everywhere and will not stop,” he added, noting that the Revolutionary Guard’s strategies and tactics are offensive, not defensive, in nature. “Our enemy will begin the war, but we will be the ones to end it,” he added.
The Sunday Vremya program, a prime-time review of the week’s news on Channel One, Russia’s biggest TV network, this evening featured a 7-minute segment on the looming threat of war, focussed on a threatened attack on Iran. The story’s dramatic tones may best be reported by quoting from the script.
«This week preparations were under way in the Persian Gulf for the possible use of force. Judging by the concentration of military equipment, we may turn out to be just one step away from war. These exercises are taking place in the Straits of Hormuz, off the coast of Iran. A record number of warships, in the region’s entire history, has assembled there – from over 30 countries, including the USA, Britain, and Saudi Arabia. Battleships, submarines, aircraft carriers, including Nimitz-class vessels with up to 70 fighter aircraft on board. The participants in these maneuvers do not conceal the fact that this show of force is addressed to Iran. … Maneuvers on such a scale have never before been conducted here. … Muscle-flexing is in full swing, heated up by bellicose rhetoric.»
Channel One interviewed Alexei Arbatov of the IMEMO Center for International Security, who said: «The situation is extremely explosive. I would say that it is the most acute that it has been in the past 20 years.»
The short review ended with the following citation from President Vladimir Putin’s remarks on Sept. 17, when he viewed the exercises in progress: «Today, as in the times of [18th-century Russian military hero] Suvorov, it is important to fight not so much with numbers, as with skill. I want to emphasize that it will continue to be so. We shall strengthen the defense capabilities of our country. The importance of your work and your service to the Fatherland will only grow. You have had excellent training and are literate people; you see what is going on in the world and how, unfortunately, the use of force in international affairs in increasing. All of this means that we must keep our powder dry. We must increase Russia’s defense capabilities.»
If the United States applies increased sanctions, invades, bombs, sends combat troops or drones, or otherwise significantly escalates its intervention in Iran or the region directly or through support of its allies, I pledge to join with others to engage in acts of legal protest and/or nonviolent civil disobedience to prevent or halt the death and destruction which U.S. military actions would cause to the people of Iran, the Middle East, our communities at home, and the planet itself.
Varsleren Daniel Ellsberg:
«The danger of a U.S. or Israeli attack on Iran — either before the election or later — is real and horrifying. It is crucial that we voice our opposition before it is too late.
«I urge you to add your name to my own and to ask your friends to do the same. We’ve been helping to prevent this attack for years, and we must not give up now.»
– Daniel Ellsberg
A decade ago, government lies and media spin brought the disaster of the Iraq war. Don’t let the same thing happen again.
RootsAction will deliver this petition to leaders of the U.S. and Israeli governments, insisting that all diplomatic avenues be pursued and opposing any military attack on Iran.
We call upon the leaders of the governments of the United States and Israel to end their threats of launching a military attack on Iran. Instead, leaders should engage in genuine diplomatic dialogue. We unequivocally oppose any attack on Iran.
Nobels fredsprisvinner Shirin Ebadi:

Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist, author of Persepolis:«If I have one message to give to the secular American people, it’s that the world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don’t know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same…
«The secular people, we have no country. We the people — all the secular people who are looking for freedom — we have to keep together. We are international, as they” — the fanatics of all religions — “are international.”
