Call for Action: Blockupy Frankfurt! Resistance in the Heart of the European Crisis Regime: May 31 and June 1, 2013
Posted by Fredsvenn den april 5, 2013
In May 2012, there were international action days in Frankfurt/Main (Germany), and about 30.000 people were at the demonstration on Saturday, 19th May 2012, the largest demonstration in the town of banks for decades.
Once again, Blockupy calls for European days of protest in Frankfurt am Main against the crisis regime of the European Union. On May 31st and June 1st 2013, we want to take the resistance against the poverty policy of the German government and the Troika – consisting of ECB, EU-Commission and IMF – into one of the centers of European crisis management: at the headquarters of the European Central Bank (ECB) and of many German banks and corporations – the profiteers of these policies.

Invitation to join the European preparatory process for Blockupy 2013
international phone conference on April 10th at 7 pm
international preparatory meeting on April 27th in Frankfurt
Blockupy in May 2012 was only the beginning. In 2013 we are coming back to Frankfurt again: Back into the financial district of the city with mass actions of civil disobedience (e.g. the blockade of the ECB) on a weekday (May 31st), and back with a strong and lively European march on the next day (June 1st).
The message is clear: Resistance in the heart of the European crisis regime, resistance of a European movement in formation. In May 2012, we were together in the streets. On November 14th 2012, we coordinated our actions in support of the first pan-European strike. In Brussels in March 2013 we gathered again, met together in our desire for another Europe and against the authoritarian crisis management from above. At Blockupy 2013 we will take to the streets again, block the banks and institutions responsible for austerity and we will not be afraid of confronting the state powers. We will create a powerful European expression of protest and resistance in the heart of the European crisis regime.
The preparatory process in Germany has already started and laid out the framework for these days: a protest camp is being planned, central actions of civil disobedience (the blockade of the ECB) are being designed, and the march through the city centre is already announced. However, of course there is still a lot to decide – about the character of the protests, the time-table, the slogans of the actions.
We are inviting you now – friends and comrades, various movements and organizations from all over Europe and beyond – to become part of the international preparatory process. Let’s talk about the European mobilization and what has to be done – an international call, a mobilization tour, multi-lingual materials for mobilization, etc. Let’s talk about the structures we need for networking, working together, being together in the streets of Frankfurt. Let’s talk about the days in Frankfurt, the character of the days and actions, the ideas of a common voice, the message we want to send, the things we want to do together and need for it. Many see Blockupy 2013 as an important step towards a large mobilization in 2014, when the political and economic elites of Europe want to celebrate the opening of the new ECB building in Frankfurt. Let’s also see, whether we can use this international preparatory process to build meaningful international structures for that.
How you can get involved:
* We have already started an international (English language) mailing list to work out some of the issues. If you or your group/organization/movement want to join this working process, send an empty email to firstname.lastname@example.org
* We’ll have an international phone conference on April 10th at 7 pm to discuss a draft for an international call, as well as all the other questions including the agenda for the international preparatory meeting on April 27th in Frankfurt. Details for the conference call can be obtained from: email@example.com.
* We are inviting you to the international preparatory meeting on Saturday, April 27th in Frankfurt (11 am to 5 pm). In this meeting we want to present the preparations as things are now and discuss all necessary changes and actions still to take, and especially talk about everything that is needed to make an international participation possible. The decisions and proposals of that meeting will be presented in the big general meeting of Blockupy activists on the following day, April 28th. You are all invited to take part in this meeting, as well. Translation will be provided. Please let us know if you want to come and send an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
* Or simply write to us with your proposals, news from your countries/regions, ideas about mobilization, etc.
We will try to keep you updated with news in English at: http://blockupy-frankfurt.org/en/
We are looking forward to hearing from you, talking to you and seeing you in the meetings and the streets of Frankfurt!
