Kriger starter fra Europa
Bombene faller ikke i Europa. De faller flere tusen km unna, ikke aller minst i Irak og Afghanistan. Men på tross av dette blir de ført fra Europa, som tjener som en lanseringsplass for militære intervensjoner globalt. Rammeverket varierer: NATO, EU, US Coalition of the Willing, FN osv. Også målene varierer: Irak, Afghanistan, Libanon, Tsjad osv. Men utgangspunktet er det samme: Militærbaser og sivile flyplasser og havner i Europa, noe som ikke aller minst var synlig under Irak krigen.
USA og Storbritannia har ført Irak krigen fra deres europeiske baser. I 2003 var hele 54.000 europeiskbasert amerikansk militærpersonale direkte involvert i krigen mot Irak. For eksempel brukte US Army sine baser i Tyskland og Italia. Bombefly tok av fra britiske baser og flybærere i Middelhavet. Marinesoldater ble plassert i det nordlige Irak fra Kreta og Bulgaria. Og dette fortsetter den dag i dag. I 2006 har to-tredjedeler av de amerikanske militærpersonell i Irak og Afghanistan vært basert i Europa og har forberedt seg for å dra eller nylig returnert. Siden januar 2003 har over 1 million US troops passert Shannon Airport i Irland på sin vei til Afghanistan og Irak. Uten Europa ville Irak krigen praktisk talt ha vært umulig.
Mer enn 25.000 europeiske soldater slåss under NATO kommando i Afghanistan. EU styrker intervener i Afrika. Både NATO og EU utvikler raske interveneringsstyrker. Flere europeiske land har militærbaser utenfor Europa for å støtte deres intervensjoner. Krigene blir ført under ulike bannere, slik som militær humanitær intervensjon og krig mot terrorisme, men bak disse PR merkelappene forsvarer militærintervensjonsmaskineriene de økonomiske interessene og opprettholder den eksisterende globale orden. Flyplasser over Europa har blitt brukt for ”fangetransport” fly.

Nå er det opprop for en europeisk dag av ikkevold direkteaksjon mot krig den 14-15 november 2008. Denne aksjonsdagen er ikke organisert av en organisasjon – Ideen er at anti-militarister over hele Europa kan tilpasse aksjonsdagen til deres lokale kontekst. Oppropet har sin opprinnelse i en diskusjon blant anti-militaristaktivister fra rundt om i Europa ved NATO: Game Over aksjonen i mars 2008. Det er viktig at vi oppmuntrer og støtter hverandre. Det kan også være fruktbart å kunne fortelle mediene at aksjonsdagen finner sted over hele Europa. Gå inn på European Peace Action.org og bli inspirert av andre ideer og post din planlagte aksjon på forhånd, hvis den da ikke skal være en overraskelsesaksjon. I etterkant av aksjonsdagen hadde det vært fint om du kunne poste rapporter/bilder/videoer. Lag en aksjon ved din lokale militærbase eller installasjon brukt for militærintervensjoner! La oss sammen stå opp i mot den militære globaliseringen!

A minority is powerless while it conforms to the majority; it is not even a minority then; but it is irresistible when it clogs by its whole weight. If the alternative is to keep all just men in prison, or give up war and slavery, the State will not hesitate which to choose. If a thousand men were not to pay their tax bills this year, that would not be a violent and bloody measure, as it would be to pay them, and enable the State to commit violence and shed innocent blood. This is, in fact, the definition of a peaceable revolution, if any such is possible.”

Certain individuals (Barbara Deming, Danilo Dolci, Devere Allen etc.) and party groups (eg. Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism, Democratic Socialists of America, Socialist Party USA, Socialist Resistance or War Resisters League) have advocated nonviolent revolution as an alternative to violence as well as elitist reformism. This perspective is usually connected to militant anti-capitalism.
Many leftist and socialist movements have hoped to mount a ”peaceful revolution” by organizing enough strikers to completely paralyze it. With the state and corporate apparatus thus crippled, the workers would be able to re-organize society along radically different lines.
Leon Trotsky, Frantz Fanon, Reinhold Niebuhr, Subhash Chandra Bose, George Orwell, Ward Churchill, Bertrand Russel and Malcolm X were fervent critics of nonviolence, arguing variously that nonviolence and pacifism are an attempt to impose the morals of the bourgeoisie upon the proletariat, that violence is a necessary accompaniment to revolutionary change, or that the right to self-defense is fundamental.
In the midst of violent repression of radical African Americans in the United States during the 1960s, Black Panther member George Jackson said of the nonviolent tactics of Martin Luther King, Jr.:
”The concept of nonviolence is a false ideal. It presupposes the existence of compassion and a sense of justice on the part of one’s adversary. When this adversary has everything to lose and nothing to gain by exercising justice and compassion, his reaction can only be negative.”
Malcolm X also clashed with civil rights leaders over the issue of nonviolence, arguing that violence should not be ruled out where no option remained:
”I believe it’s a crime for anyone being brutalized to continue to accept that brutality without doing something to defend himself.”
Hva jeg tror vi må se er at det handler om en av flere metoder.
